I was using Kali Rolling with gqrx to talk to the SDR receiver. To get all the software working, just install gqrx:

HackRF is an open source software definded radio developed by Michael Ossmann with funds from the DARPA. It has an operation frequency from 1 MHz to 6 GHz (send and receive in half-duplex). You find further information on the github page 3.4k. This is the HackRF One, a Software Defined Radio (SDR) peripheral capable of transmission or reception of radio signals from 1MHz to 6GHz. HackRF is an open source Software Defined Radio that can receive and transmit between 30 MHz and 6 GHz. HackRF has a 20 MHz bandwidth. It is a High Speed USB device powered by the USB bus. This package contains a set of command line utilities.

HackRF One as a Transmitter So a number of what we all call SDR receivers are capable of transmitting. The output power in the case of the HackRF one is about 250mV p-p, in other words a very small signal, 0.15mW.

To address problems with the sound card, check Kali/Fixes

The HackRF hardware is from Great Scott Gadgets. More info at HackRF.

The setup was to have the HackRF talking to gqrx. When you run gqrx, you can set the bandwidth (on the HackRF, up to 10 MHz. Nfs prostreet pc hack. I just picked 2 MHz for testing.)

Here's a quick video of everything working hunky dory: here I'm using Kali Linux to tune in to a Seattle-area repeater, WW7PSR, on 146.960 MHz.
